5 DISTINCT FEATURES OF AN HONEST PERSON
We live in a world where honesty is a thing of words rather than actions. When it comes to being honest, we prefer “talking it”, instead of “living it”. No wonder there is such a minute number of honest people in our society today.
Now being honest doesn’t only necessarily mean telling the truth. It’s way more than that. Honesty is kinda like a compound virtue, it’s quite encompassing you know. It involves fairness and straightforwardness in your manner of conduct and behaviour. It is an act more out of the conscious and deliberate effort. Honest people are honest not because they were born as though, but because they choose to be honest.
Honest people are easily identified with—their honesty seems to always make them stand out amidst the crowd. No matter how tempting their situations may be, they still cannot compromise their honesty for anything.
There are varied distinguishable features that an honest person often possesses. These evident features are the reason why people are always drawn to them. Here are 5 of those distinct features:
-
AN HONEST PERSON IS ALWAYS HUMBLE
A person of honesty knows the essence of being humble, so he always exhibits this characteristic feature wholeheartedly, in all manner of ways. They sure do know that with humility, they can possess the earth just as Jesus teaches in the Bible book of Matthew 5:5 NLT, “God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth”.
Regardless of who he is, the position(s) he holds, or how much influence and affluence he may have, an honest person will always choose to be humble. He doesn’t in any way look down on anybody.
The humility in an honest person makes him not brag or boast excessively about his abilities. He just likes to keep it low and quiet.
The humility in him also makes him be aware that, “As humans, we’re bound to make mistakes…” So, he is always willing and ready to accept his errors and flaws and also learn the necessary lessons from them. This makes him always take prompt actions into correcting his flaws and faults.
-
AN HONEST PERSON DOESN’T TRY TO FIT IN
“Fitting in” is not the usual trademark of an honest person, but “Standing out” is. No matter how much people try to lure or entice him, he doesn’t move with the opinions and actions of the “majors”. Even if it involves him standing out alone, he is more than willing to make such a sacrifice.
Every day of our lives, whether knowingly to us or not, we’re all trying to fit in, to blend with the ways of society. We’re always willing to do whatever it takes as long as we’re recognized as being part of the multitude. We often do this because the whole idea of being alone or left alone really scares us.
So even if we seemingly don’t fit in, we still try hard to force ourselves in, not minding if our integrity and dignity is tainted. You see, this is what makes an honest person so peculiar.
An honest person is ever ready to displease every other person, just so his integrity and dignity are protected. He doesn’t care about the offers that are presented before him, if it involves him compromising his beliefs and values, he will bluntly reject such offers. He cannot be seen doing what others are doing, he always tries to make a difference by doing what is right, even if he does it alone.
-
AN HONEST PERSON ALWAYS EXHIBITS TRANSPARENCY
Transparency is another distinct feature that is often portrayed by an honest person. He knows how to address issues with sheer clarity and fairness.
When it comes to being transparent, most people don’t really know how pertinent it is for personal growth and development. They always treat the attitude of being transparent with laxity and this always makes issues to be more complex and complicated for them. They are always fond of covering up the real cause of issues, either to protect their emotions or whatever, and this makes their approach to addressing issues seem quite obscure and dishonest.
But an honest person lives a life of transparency. It doesn’t matter how intense and hurting issues may cause to his emotions, he is always clear and open-minded. He is always willing to sort out issues from their real cause, and he doesn’t cover up anything even for anybody.
The fact that an honest person is always transparent makes him highly respectable by society. This sole attitude of transparency always makes people rely on him, undoubtedly.

AN HONEST PERSON IS OFTEN OUTSPOKEN
Now there is a great number of un-outspoken individuals around us today. This is so because they tend to allow timidity to always get the best of them. Sometimes, what they actually wanna say or do may be right or at least true. But they still feel the stress is not worth it, and the courage isn’t there to help them bring out themselves.
However, an honest person always says and do what he wants, as long as he knows that it’s true and right. He possesses the courage to be outspoken in all of his dealings. He doesn’t try to hesitate or refrain for any reason whatsoever. As a matter of fact, even when people brutally criticize his every action, he doesn’t give a single damn. He couldn’t care less about what they say because he wasn’t even listening to them in the first place.
An honest person is always outspoken because he knows very well how people can be intimidating and imposing, so he always stands up for himself. His outspokenness always awestruck many around him. People tend to wonder where such guts always arise from, but they fail to realize that the honesty in him is what always gives him the courage to speak up for himself, regardless of what people may think or feel of him.
-
AN HONEST PERSON IS NO HYPOCRITE
Hypocrisy is one act that has really eaten deep into society. It is no news that people who act in hypocrisy often outnumber those who live in sincerity and honesty. No wonder things tend to keep getting worse rather than better.
Many of these hypocrites say or do things that are contrary and contradictory to their beliefs and values. As it is now, hypocrisy is already their way of living. They enjoy the act of not being their real selves in the eyes of others, so they constantly try so hard to mask their real self, for people not to think poorly of, or downgrade them.
This turns out to be so because people no longer value the virtue of sincerity and honesty. They don’t seem to care if their personalities are tarnished or blemished, as long as they think their fake lifestyle will make people think highly of them, they are totally fine with that.
This set of hypocrites has not only successfully infected every area of life, but they also tend to lure otherwise to do what they are doing. They want this “new improved lifestyle” of theirs to be an identity to every other person around them, they want others to imitate them.
But here’s the catch: these hypocrites can succeed in enticing every other person to do their biddings, but they can never do such to a person of honesty. As a matter of fact, they know that an honest person will never compromise his values and beliefs for anything, so they don’t even try shooting their shot in the first place.
An honest person is no hypocrite, and that’s why his beliefs and values always align with his every word and action. He doesn’t have time for pretentious living, and this makes him a trustworthy and reliable person. He does what he says he would do, and doesn’t do what he says he wouldn’t.
Conclusion
Honesty is a virtuous possession that is always worthwhile. It doesn’t matter how deteriorated this world becomes, living a life of honesty will always make the difference.
We should endeavour to act in honesty and not just blabbing and blathering about it. Remember, “Action speaks louder than words”.
To sum up: we should examine ourselves and see if we are truly honest as we claim to be. If not, we should personally begin to develop the virtue and the distinguishable features alongside. It should be deliberate.
