How to get a first-class degree in engineering
Hi guys. Welcome to the latest school news update.
Today I’ll be exposing you to a feat that seems unachievable. I’m talking about graduating with a first-class in Nigeria.
I’m going to be using elect/elect engineering of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) as a case study.
I guess you’ll be able to relate it to your various field of study. Remember, no knowledge is wasted.
In a bid to pass the message across, I’ll be giving the dos and don’ts for each year.
If your goal is to graduate with a first-class result, I advise you to read carefully.
Without further boring talk, let’s cut to the chase.

How to graduate with a first-class in the university (Engineering)
100 level
This is a year where making lots of mistakes seems insignificant to graduating well.
Classes are meaningless in the first year except for practical courses which are compulsory.
Feel free to skip classes, as long as you finish your course outline and consume lots of past questions.
Lastly, it will do you a lot more good than harm if you stick to one tutorial.

200 level
This is when you enter engineering proper.
However, most courses are engineering general courses i.e courses offered by the full faculty.
Now, you’ll have to be more serious with classes.
However, attendance count for very few courses like drawing, ELA etc but don’t take your chances.
Not all courses have recommended textbook, making use of past questions is still your best shot.
Take drawing and ELA seriously and you are good to go.
300 level
Now, you’re been welcome to your department proper. Most students are still unknown to the lecturers.
Unlike 100 and 200 level, you must take your classes seriously.
Attendance counts, assignment counts and test count.
Don’t let anyone deceive you, they are used as you continuous assessment.
Also, it can be used for upgrading if general performance is poor. You don’t want to take your chances.
They are hardly ever recommended textbooks. Lecturers may or may not give materials.
If they do, focus on the materials; the examples and exercises in it.
If they don’t, focus on your class note; they won’t exceed it.
If your aim is to pass, know as much as you can know from your class note and you are good to go.
400 level
This is the level you finally decide if you’ll be a first-class student or not. You have only one semester to prove yourself worthy (just like thor).
Like 300 level, same applies here.
Additionally, pay for anything you are told to pay for by your lecturers and try making friends with them to prevent stories that touch.
500 level
If you’ve been consistent in your 300 and 400 level, kudos to you because you might get a bit of favouritism here (just like MESSI and RONALDO does sometimes).
Lecturers now separate those with good grades from those without.
There’s a tendency that lecturers become your friend and might start overlooking little errors while compiling your results.
That doesn’t mean you can’t pass with merit, but who doesn’t need little assistance to achieve his/her goal?
However, generally, one can follow the same process of 300 and 400level and get good grades.
Abiding by these steps will help in your goal to graduate with a first-class.
For those in other departments/school, try looking for the perfect way to relate it and you can still get the first class you need.
The most important thing is for you to read always and try putting more focus on what your lecturers demand from you.
“I too know” won’t help you in the university.
Would love to hear how you feel about this article. Do have a nice day.
