Uniben transfer is one thing that has enabled students to finally study their dream course even after gaining admission into UNIBEN. It is not as stressful as many may think. However, getting the UNIBEN transfer form is on the high side. In order not to end up wasting your money, I’ll advise you to read carefully.

Wrong information about UNIBEN transfer

There is so many wrong information at there about going Uniben transfer. Some of these stories baffle me. I’ll be like what are the sources of these misleading information. Anyway, worry no more as you’ll be getting the right information about UNIBEN transfer here

One of the most misleading information I heard about UNIBEN transfer is when you apply for transfer and don’t get accepted by the new department, then you stand the risk of losing your admission. That’s a big lie. Desist from spreading such information. There’s nothing about UNIBEN transfer that put your admission at risk. If you don’t get accepted, you return to your previous department. It’s that simple.

Funny enough, the risk of not getting accepted by your new department is low. Uniben transfer almost always works out. So, there is no need to panic that things won’t go as plan.

Take note, If you have paid your transfer fee then be expecting your name on the list. Anyway, I have some warning for students intending to transfer. It’s more or less a piece of advice concerning UNIBEN transfer. But considering the amount of money that would be lost if this doesn’t go as plan, I decided to use the word ‘warning’.

Before I state them, you need to know that because you are a transfer student doesn’t make you a lesser student. I have seen transfer student graduate with first-class honour. There are so many of them. It is not even a topic, because they are just like every other student.

So, here are my warnings?

Warnings about UNIBEN inter-department/faculty transfer

 

1.     TRY NOT TO FAIL ANY COURSE FROM YOUR FIRST YEAR:

This doesn’t put you at risk of not being accepted but you might be at risk of your course being change again. Because it kind of makes you less priority to them. For example, a student who applies to transfer to elect/elect engineering from physical science might end up in production engineering if he/she fails a course

Mind you, I didn’t say having a very good result is a criterion to transfer. All I’m saying is you have to do your best to avoid failing any course from your previous department or level. Else, your fate would be decided by UNIBEN for the second time. Remember, you can’t transfer twice in UNIBEN.

It’s clearly written on the transfer form “Inter-faculty transfer is a privilege and not a right. Students who have previously transferred from another faculty/school are not eligible for transfers”.

I  find this funny because you’ll have to pay the transfer fee before getting the form and getting this information. So beware so you won’t end up wasting your money on UNIBEN transfer

 

2.   RESUME WITH YOUR NEW DEPARTMENT

What does this mean? Immediately, you have paid your transfer fee, resume your new department by the time a new session begins, even if the transfer list isn’t out yet.

A lot of students make the mistake of attending classes from both their present department and their intended destination department. With the mindset of playing safe. But that will put your performance at risk.

I said it before, as far as you have paid your transfer fee, then there’s nothing to worry about. It’s something that must work out. Don’t put yourself into unnecessary stress by attending classes from both departments.

 

3. DO NOT INDICATE THAT YOU WERE PRESSURISED TO FILL THE FORM

This is one area UNIBEN grants student their wish. They don’t want their students to be under pressure (lol). Somewhere in the form, you’ll be asked if you were pressurised to do a transfer. Better tick no, if you want the transfer to be positive. Else, your money would be wasted.

4. FOLLOW UP THE COURSES FOR YOUR NEW DEPARTMENT

This means any opportunity to offer all the courses of your new department in 100level should be grabbed with both hands. For example, the mathematics department has chem 113 as an elective course at 100 level. Failure to register and offer the course in your old department will cause an automatic carry over in 200 level if your new department demands it.

 

5. APPLY WISDOM WHEN FILLING UNIBEN TRANSFER FORM

The fact that it’s an interfaculty transfer and success is guaranteed doesn’t mean you can just transfer to any department. What i mean is that it is unwise for a microbiology student to pick up a transfer form for mechanical engineering. There is no relationship there. Also, let your waec result guide you too. Take carry over courses that might be inherited into consideration too.

A student from maths edu will have nothing less than 3 carryover courses if he/she were to transfer to a course in engineering. Ask yourself, is it worth the risk. Lastly, there are departments/faculties that do not accept inter-faculty transfer. Similar, getting into others might need a little connection. See the list of such department/faculty here.
