This poem is for the Nigerian fallen soldiers
For those that fought for humanity
And for those that humanity fought unjustly
For those that were killed in battle
For those that died of old age and those we never knew
For the activists that died fighting for a better nation
For the lights that were put out during abortions and as stillborns
For the pensioners that toiled till immature death
For those taken by natural disasters and sickness
For those who lived with accident defects and birth deformities
For those that died of insurgencies and terrorism
For those that lost hope and committed suicide
For those that propagated the gospel their whole lives
For the Rashidi Yekinis, Fumilayo Ransom Kutis, Samuel Okparajis, and the Fela Anikulapo Kutis
For the Herbert Macaulays, Chinua Achebes, Festus Iyayis, and the Dele Giwas
For the Chibok girls, Michael Imoudus, Ganni Fawehinmis, and the MKO Abiolas
For the Margaret Ekpos, Stephen Keshis, Dora Akunyilis and, the Benson Idahosas
You lost to death but fought in life
Your swords bear marks and the sands of time testify
The earth show proof of your footprints and the air bear records for your memorial
We will keep your good legacies and speak of your brave acts
That for your heroism, we are who we are.
