HAVING TOTAL CONTROL AMIDST STRESS | 4 PRACTICAL TIPS AND GUIDELINES TO RELIEVE STRESS
Life can be such a stress. It can be such a stress that you would even forget to take a breather. You might as well even think that managing stress is an illusion and that it’s not utterly possible to derive so much pleasure and relaxation in a stress-filled world. Well, think again!
We all know that nothing can be more stressful and more frustrating than being stressed out and overwhelmed by so much at hand. Such conditions may make you feel that you can never make it out alive—like it just wants you to feel like dying is your only relief.
Most people are so frustrated and so unpleased with their lives because of how stress has trapped them. They feel all they can do is keeping living the stress-filled frustrated life until death finally comes to get a hold on them.
I guess this is the more reason there is so much imbalance and psychological unrest in people’s lives. They seem to always be so anxious and fussy when it comes to dealing with a task that they presumed would elicit stress.
Having so much stress can make you forget the fact that you’re breathing—you might as well think that breathing in itself is stressful. Shucks! It shouldn’t always be like that you know. Stress is not meant to be a “mainstay” in your life, it’s really not meant to!
Life was meant to be a balanced scale where stress and other external complications are to be managed and utterly minimized. Frustration arises as a result of an unbalanced stifled life. And all these can create resentment and arrogance in a person’s life.
However, we are aware that for every downside, there is always an upside close by. In essence, stress can be so depressing—no doubt, but it can also be controlled to the extent that you’ll be enjoying your life even with a lot of stress around. You don’t really think it’s possible, well read on!
DERIVING SOME DOWNTIMES AMIDST STRESS
Whatever you do—whether schooling, working on a job or running your own business, just first acknowledge the fact that stress is an inevitable part of life. But it goes out of control when you allow it to get a hold of you. Just as the old saying goes, “Whatever you allow happens to you”. So your first approach to stress management is to not allow it to rule your life. Yes, it can always come around and try to push you around a bit but you’re actually smarter than it—so behave as such.
Deriving some downtimes even with a lot of stress around you is a great necessity and not just a mere luxury.
To achieve this, you have to first go with the mindset that it’s utterly possible to enjoy your life even when you’re at the core point of so much stress around.
Just know that when you first develop the mentality that stress can be controlled, then it can—that’s all it takes.
There are really several things you can do to eventually strike a balance between your stresses and the normal relaxed, anxious-free you actually want for yourself.
Subsequently, we would be looking at a few of the tips you can utilize to make this balanced life possible. Now, I may not be a stress expert (yes, that’s a thing! And you would be surprised at what other terms has experts), but I have gone through some stress myself—I mean who hasn’t, and I did happen to manage it.
Funny enough, most of the time that I actually did control those stresses, I was completely clueless of the tactics and skills I pulled at that very point of my life—but I just know I did something about and it helped me really.
Well right now, being that I got the inspiration of writing an article relating to stress management, I just had to sit my ass down to think through and back on how I really did manage those stress that occurred in my life. And yes, I was able to pull a few out of this brain of mine just so you can benefit from it too and not always be in the shackles of always being unnecessarily stressed out.
The following tips are not a guarantee for eliminating stress away from your life—for I’m no magician and can’t possibly do that. Rather they are tips and guidelines to help yourself relieve a little bit of pressure in stressful conditions. So here they are:
4 TIPS AND GUIDELINES TO HELP RELIEVE PRESSURE IN STRESSFUL CONDITIONS
-
AVOID STRESS
According to an article published in October 2019 by HelpGuide on “Stress Management”, written by Lawrence Robinson, Melinda Smith, M.A., and Robert Segal, M.A., there are probably only four things you can do to curtail stress: Avoid, Alter, Adapt and Accept.
You’ve to know that not all stress is faced or taken seriously. There are those you can totally avoid and “get away with”. What you’ve to do first is identify the stress at hand, see if it’s not worth your time and energy, so as you channel those energies somewhere else.
Remember the aim here is to have some downtimes from or in—stress. Well, in this very first tip, you really don’t have to go through the stress in the first place. All you really have to do is to be discerning enough to see if the present stress is an avoidable one. And if it is, please don’t be afraid to go for it, and don’t worry, you’ll eventually get away with it without any underlying repercussion or whatsoever.
Also, you’ve to know that stress can also come in form of people. So do yourself a great favour by identifying those “stress” and avoid them or better still cut them away from your life—if possible.
-
ALTER STRESS
I know that after reading the first guidelines, you probably thought all you could ever do to take a break is to always avoid all stress that life and situations present to you, am I right? Well just wait till you see how you can always turn the tides of stress into your favour—which of course is altering.
If there are unwanted stress (which needs to be avoided), there are the “wanted” one too which can be transformed into something productive. There is some kind of stress that doesn’t need to be avoided, but all you’ve to do is face them and look for ways to change it.
Stressors—which are environmental conditions and situations of stress induction—can be altered to abridge the magnitude of stress involved. Let’s take, for instance, you always have to take a longer route every day to your job and this always stresses you out.
Somehow you just happen to relate your ordeal with a co-worker and he of course knows a shorter and much more stress-free route you can take.
By shifting your course from a longer route commutation to a shorter one, the stress in your everyday life has been reduced and you now get to work earlier than before and this keeps you relaxed before working hours begin—downtime no.2 derived!
-
ADAPT STRESS
Now you pretty much know that you can avoid stress or alter it. The third tip we’re going to look at is the adaptation to stress—and everything involved.
Basically, some stress is worth it, yes they are! I mean, you can’t really avoid neither can you alter it. All you really can do is just morph into the stress. That is, adapting and getting used to it over time.
Adapting to stress that you Know is inevitable is such a sage thing to do, trust me. It simply means you’re fitting into it so that it doesn’t make you lose your mind and go haywire.
However, there’s something you really have to know when adapting to stress. You really have to make sure that the stress you want to adapt to is sensible and will yield good returns in the long run.
You don’t have to go about adapting to all forms of stress coming around you, don’t do that, please! This might make you susceptible to stress and you really won’t be able to have breaks in your life because you’re busy “adapting” to stress that will eventually kill you.
“Look before you leap” is what I’ll say when you want to adapt to certain stress. Always make sure that the adaptation process doesn’t drain you out in the end.
-
ACCEPT STRESS
I know for sure that accepting stress is not what you really want to do because you might feel it’s counterintuitive—well, I do too! And don’t worry I assure you that accepting the right stress won’t harm you in any way.
Remember I mentioned inevitable stress in “adapt stress”. The same applies to accepting it too, what it also needs is a little bit of acceptance in your mind to make it all in one accord.
There is basically some stress that is needed in your life. However, this doesn’t mean you would allow it to get you so down and depressed thinking all you will live for in this life is misery upon misery. Just highlight those stress you know you’ve to go through no matter what happens.
Now this doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy yourself during the stress and derive relaxation, no! you can as well do both, it’s totally possible. Just don’t get too worked up about the stress.
Deriving some downtimes in an accepted stress condition really involves you overlooking the stress and seeing beyond what your visible eyes can see. Don’t go with the mindset that you’ll always be stressed out with stress all around you. Just create in your mind that this stress is in total control and nothing can destabilize you.
