WHY IS IT THAT MOST PEOPLE TENDS TO BE IGNORANT?
I know this might sound a bit blunt and harsh, but most people—including myself, tend to be ignorant about a whole lot of things and that can make us make a lot of wrong decisions in our lives that may affect us in the long run.
Now, when I speak of ignorance, I’m really talking about it from a general perspective. From our food making decisions down to our careers, businesses, academics and even our relationships as well.
The kind of approach you employ when resolving or addressing a particular issue will tell on how well you know about such an issue.
No doubt, a good number of us just do or go into stuff without necessarily finding out about such “stuff” in-depth. We just assume that in the process of doing such a thing, we will learn about it and that is also true.
However, there are so many mistakes that you’ll make and that could have been prevented if you’ve found out about it in the first place, a whole lot.
We may be ignorant about a particular aspect of life and we know we are. Yet, we still fail to take out the time to know about it due to one reason or the other.
The last statement is even better. Now, just imagine those people who are also ignorant, but fail to realize that they are. They might as well go around acting all smart and good when for a fact they are the exact opposite of what they act. Just as someone said, “The greatest mountain in life is personal ignorance”
Those kinds of people are the reason for their own stagnation in life and they don’t even know this because they are not self-conscious.
YOU’RE NOT EVEN AS SMART AS YOU THINK
This is really a major problem for a lot of people. you really think you’re so smart and this thinking makes you learn less and by learning less, you’re getting ignorant by the day.
Yes, you’re smart, no doubt. But not as the way you think you are. You know, the way we see ourselves in our minds is really different from the way it really is in reality.
Don’t get me wrong, thinking big is cool and really nice. However, thinking big and not working in line with such “thinking” won’t yield any “big” result, all you’ll be doing is daydreaming.
So, I don’t really know what people think of themselves when they act all smart, and they might even think that they know more than you can ever know. I mean, what the hell! Who gave them that sort of notion.
So dear, drop the acting-so-smart attitude and get a grip of yourself. Knowing more than someone in a particular area doesn’t make you more knowledgeable than they are.
You’re just privileged to know that particular area more than them and I’m pretty sure there are areas that they will also know more than you, so why act all smart? There really is no use, trust me!
MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT EVEN READY TO LEARN
So many people tend to be ignorant because they are not even ready to learn in the first place. They don’t even have any iota or willingness to learn anything they don’t know about, so tell me why won’t such people become ignorant.
Some might not even be ready to learn due to laziness or indifference, while others might not even want to learn because of some sort of pride that has grown and developed inside of them, so they retreat in learning.
A lot of people see learning as a tasking thing and so this makes them not be interested in learning. And that’s really not the way it should be, because learning is one of the best ways we can get less ignorant and to tell you the truth, nothing that yields a good result is really not tasking. Just as they’ll often say, “Nothing good comes easy”.
If you don’t want to remain in the spot you’re currently, then you’ve got to be ready to lean. Learn virtually everything and anything that interests you and also those that interests you less, yet are beneficial to you and your personal development.
GIVING IS EVEN MORE BENEFICIAL
While we’re emphasizing on those not ready to learn, there are still those who are not willing and ready to give out what they’ve learnt and that’s even worse.
In case you don’t know yet, giving is even better and more beneficial. Even the Bible says that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
I don’t really get some people’s attitude. Why keep the things you’ve learnt to yourself, I mean, why? There are people out there who are looking for such knowledge and can’t seem to get any access to it.
And there you are, keeping it to yourself as though you want to keep it as an inheritance for your children. Really, is that even worth it, is it?
Do you even know that you learn more when you teach what you’ve learnt to others? Funny enough, what you’ve learnt sticks faster to you when you teach it to other people, so there is really no point hiding or keeping what you’ve learnt to yourself when you can actually be of great help to others.
Many people don’t know this, I guess that’s why they tend to be an increasing rate of ignorance in ourselves today. Now don’t get me wrong, technology came as an eye-opener to every one of us and with it, our level of awareness has increased over time.
However, there are still so many things we still don’t know about and that’s even telling more on us than the things we actually do know.
So brethren, give out whatever you know that may be of help to others. Give it out willingly and freely and don’t make it seem as if you were forced to do such or so.
Trust me, this single act of yours will surely reduce the number of ignorant persons by the number of people that actually did learn from you.
PEOPLE TEND TO BE LESS CURIOUS ABOUT THINGS
There really is a thing about curiosity. It makes one think critically and analytically. And this is what is missing in some people, making them be less aware of things going on around them.
Personally, I tend to be very curious, like highly curious and I think I got it from my dad, but mine is a more subtle version, those who really know me, knows this. Can you believe that I even find my curiosity annoying me at times? Like within me, I just want to know about everything and everyone and we both know that that’s not humanly possible because knowledge is endless and renewing.
When you’re curious about something, it opens up a new phase of perspective of seeing such a thing and by that, you’re gaining more knowledge about it more than you can imagine.
Most people tend to be ignorant about a lot of things because they refuse to raise relevant questions about what seems obscure and vague to them. And you know when you don’t ask questions about what seems vague to you, it’ll continue to get vaguer because you’re really not making any effort to shed even the dimmest of light on it. So, how the hell do you expect to know about such a thing?
Curiosity awakes your inactive mind and forces it to get to work.
BEING LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE SUCKS; DON’T SWEAT IT
Now, one other major reason a lot of people tend to be ignorant is that they copy others. They want to be like everybody else and now “everybody else” is not that knowledgeable, so they end up being like that because they want it.
You really don’t have to be like everybody else, it’s really of no use because in the end you’ll be harming and depreciating yourself. Why not be yourself instead and let others follow in that line.
Now, not everyone you see around knows exactly what they’re doing. Most of them are just making a fool out of themselves by doing what others are doing, so why should you be like such people when they don’t even know what they are doing.
Do you know you can be in the minority of knowledgeable people and not the other set of ignorant entities? You just have to develop a learning interest first and then every other thing will follow suit.
It may not go exactly like the way you planned, but not to worry you’ll know that at least you’re making positive progress and that’s the most important thing. So, make it a daily practice to always learn in order to move out of the boat of ignorant.
