While phone rules can apply to both men and women in relationships as I’ve written in my previous article. Well, there are also some additional points specifically tailored for guys in a relationship who are bent on making it work and some of these rules include:
16 Phone etiquette for guys in a relationship
1. Offer Support and Active Listening:
When your partner shares something important or seeks your support, put your phone aside and actively listen to them. Show genuine interest and give them your undivided attention, making them feel valued and respected.
2. Avoid Engaging in Inappropriate Conversations:
Be mindful of the types of conversations you engage in with others on your phone. Refrain from participating in conversations that may be considered disrespectful or inappropriate, as it can undermine trust within your relationship.
3. Plan Surprise or Thoughtful Phone Gestures:
Use your phone to plan surprises or thoughtful gestures for your partner. Send them sweet messages, plan date nights, or organize special activities using apps or online resources to show your love and appreciation. Learn to reassure them of your love for them through affirmations and sweet gestures. An example of a sweet gesture can be seen in the next point.
4. Goodmorning and Goodnight Messages:
If you’re in a relationship, this is more important than you think. No matter what, make sure you send these msgs. If you wake up in the morning and half your leg is missing, before you go to the hospital, make sure you msg her saying, Good morning baby.
This one has to be done with wisdom sha. Don’t just say good morning or goodnight, you have to add babe or some sentimental name after.

5. Use Phone Reminders for Special Occasions:
Set reminders on your phone for important dates, such as anniversaries or birthdays, to ensure you don’t forget or overlook them. This is very important because men are often known to be forgetful when it comes to dates compared to women. Use technology to help you be organized and thoughtful in celebrating milestones with your partner.
6. Saying “love you” before you hang up:
If you don’t say this before you hang up, it’s like you’ve told your girl that you hope her family dies from starvation. You can talk to a girl 30 days and 30 nights in one phone call, donate your kidney to her in that one phone call but if you don’t say “love you”, she’s going to message you with the statement starting with “I just think it’s funny how”. So make sure you say it before you hang up
Trust me you don’t want them “I just think it’s funny how….” text from your girl. Infact, make sure you don’t always leave it to love you and often say it even fully i.e. “I love you” because funny enough, that could be a problem of its own as well.
7. Respond to everything and anything she sends:
Your girl can send u 14 messages, 5 pictures and 1 sticker, make sure you respond to each one of them accordingly. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make sense to you. But it sure makes sense to her. So respond cause if she sends you 10msgs and u send back a 1msg reply even if it’s a reply that answers all 10msgs, there’s gonna be a problem bruhh…..
8. Avoid Excessive Gaming:
If you enjoy gaming on your phone, make sure it doesn’t interfere with your quality time with your partner. Set boundaries for gaming sessions to ensure you’re present and engaged when spending time together.
9. Be Mindful of Excessive Sports Updates:
If you’re an avid sports fan who frequently checks scores and updates on your phone, be mindful of how it affects your interactions with your partner. Avoid constantly checking scores during important moments or conversations, and find a balance that respects both your passion for sports and your partner’s need for attention.

10. Don’t Use the Phone as an Escape:
It’s important to address and communicate about any issues or conflicts within the relationship rather than using your phone as an escape. Avoid retreating to your phone when faced with relationship challenges. Instead, engage in open and honest conversations with your partner to work through problems together.
11. Random calls:
When you’re in a relationship, random checkup calls are pretty important. Even if your girl isn’t a call person it would still make her smile. And if she happens to be a call lover then when you’re driving, when ya eating, when ya changing outfit, make sure you call her. These random calls make her as happy as seeing a random cute dog.
12. Don’t let your phone die when you’re not home:
Always charge your phone before you leave the house. It’s pretty straightforward. Or better still you message her “Hey my battery is about to die”, and even when u do that sometimes, she could start having thoughts or be worried especially if she is an overthinker. Inform your partner when and why you need to turn off your phone when you two are apart. Keep your partner from worrying.
13. Use affectionate words:
When you are in a relationship imbibe the use of affectionate words like “Hi love”, and “Hey baby”. Don’t be a cold boyfriend who just goes all “Good morning” “Hey” “Hafa”. To her, it’s you saying you just want to be friends. How a conversation starts determines how it flows. If you start warm, you two will enjoy talking with each other on the phone.
14. Communicate if you are busy:
If you are busy or will be busy, always notify your partner you will not be able to pick up calls or reply to texts promptly. So they do not feel ignored. Inform your partner what you will be doing and approximately for how long. This prepares your partner and brings peace because your partner will not feel ignored.

15. Call but be mindful of when and how you do it:
Unless it’s an emergency, when you can’t reach your partner and you probably know she is at work or doing something; don’t keep calling and texting desperately. You will only look like a nag to your partner and that will make your partner detest phone contact with you. Relax, your partner will see your missed call and text.
16. Check up after a date:
Guys don’t wait for her to call you first to say she has gotten home. At least after giving a reasonable amount of time call her up to make sure she has gotten home safely. It shows you care.
Conclusion
Remember, these guidelines are not meant to be restrictive, but rather to promote healthy communication and mutual respect within your relationship. Openly discuss your phone usage and expectations with your partner, and be willing to adjust and compromise based on each other’s needs and preferences.
